From Lone Wolf to Wolf Pack : Overcoming the Inner Narrative of Non-Belonging

I want to start today's newsletter with a big fat THANK YOU. Thank you for opening this email and taking the time to read through my meandering words. Thank you for walking alongside me as I have faltered and fumbled over the many years of this growth journey, and thank you for the space to continue growing as I get more and more aligned with who I am and what I am called to bring.

This week's video is about a topic really close to my heart: The Myth of the Lone Wolf.

When I hit my rock bottom of burnout and then depression, it was the Wolf Pack that caught me and nursed me back to health.

I had been living under the mistaken belief that if I couldn't do it alone there was something wrong with me...so I kept pushing and striving until it all came tumbling down.

What I have learned in the past decade is that I get to choose my Wolf Pack.

Even so, old habits die hard.

We were at this social gathering a couple weeks ago and I was surrounded by people who I deeply care about.

We were outside around a fire, and I was wearing the wrong shoes and not enough layers. 

The old voice of the Lone Wolf started whispering to me about how different I am, telling me that I don't really fit here, that I wasn't prepared, and that I clearly had nothing in common with everyone else who all seemed to feel a sense of ease and camaraderie with each other in their sensible shoes and weather-appropriate-outer-wear.

As I sat with the initial discomfort and the familiar, raspy voice in my head, I realized I was putting old stories into a new moment.

I was replaying past scenarios rather than being present with the reality of the moment.

I paused, took a breath, and sat down. 

I practiced a simple technique that I have been learning over the past several months which helped me to acknowledge my discomfort, calm my nervous system, and make room for insight and alignment. 

I shifted my inner energy.

And within seconds, all the whispering fell away and I actually arrived.

The rest of the afternoon was filled with laughter and connection. To manage having the wrong shoes I just sat in the chair. To manage my coldness, my friends layered me up in blankets and hats and even their kids' coats, causing even more laughter and mayhem...and I was one of the last to leave.

This tool, developed by my good friend Monique Peck, has been a God-send for me.

It's so easy to learn and use, and provides a predictable pathway back to a state of ease and flow without much time or effort or prior experience with expanded states of consciousness. 

When people first learn it, they sometimes think it's TOO easy - how can we have such a profound inner shift in such a short time?

But the more I practice it, the easier and easier it gets for me to notice when I am out of alignment and quickly return back to myself.
